International Beekeeping Photography Competition 2014
Slovenian Beekeepers’ Association (SBA) launches the 2014 international beekeeping photography competition.
The competition is open to individuals from all countries who may participate by submitting their own yet unpublished photographs. The competition focuses on four subject categories:
1. Honey Bee and the World of Plants;
2. The Life of Bees (biology);
3. Beekeeping Tasks and Honey Bee Products;
4. Traditional Bee House / Bee Yard.
The photographs will be assessed by a panel of experts according to predefined criteria, including: expressiveness, originality, technical design, aesthetics, and honey bee race. The panel will nominate three authors with the best photograph in each category. Among them, the author of the winning photograph will be awarded the gold certificate and the other two authors will receive the silver and bronze certificate, respectively. The prizes for 2014 competition winners will be provided by Slovenian beekeeping tourist homesteads.
The closing date for photograph submissions is 19 December 2014. The award ceremony will be held at the ApiSlovenia 2014 Fair on Saturday, 21 March 2015, in Celje, Slovenia.

Rules of the International Beekeeping Photography Competition 2014 as organized by the Slovenian Beekeepers’ Association (SBA)
Any natural person of any nationality may participate in the competition by submitting their own yet unpublished photographs.
Color or black and white photographs (300 dpi or more). At least one photograph should be taken in portrait orientation.
The photograph authors shall be anonymized prior to assessment.
Slovenia is home to the Carniolan honey bee (Apis mellifera carnica), thus the photographs displaying this honey bee race will be given preference.
The photographs shall be assessed by the panel according to the predefined criteria:
- Technical design
- Bee race (Apis mellifera carnica).
An additional criterion applies to the Traditional Bee House / Bee Yard subject category:
- Orderly appearance of the bee house / beehives and the surroundings
NOMINATIONS AND WINNERS
For each subject category, the panel will nominate three authors with the best photographs. The best photographs’ authors shall be awarded the gold, silver, and bronze certificate, respectively.
The decision reached by the panel is final.
AWARDS AND CERTIFICATES
The competition winners will receive an award and the applicable certificate.
Every nominee will receive a certificate of nomination.
Every participant will receive a certificate of participation.
The awards for the 2014 competition winners will be donated by Slovenian beekeeping tourist homesteads.
Photograph submission deadline is 19 December 2014.
Nomination submission deadline is 15 January 2015.
The award ceremony will be held at the ApiSlovenia 2014 Fair on Saturday, 21 March 2015, in Celje, Slovenia.
After the ApiSlovenia 2015 Fair, the winners will be announced on the SBA website as well: www.czs.si.
All photographs nominated will be displayed at the ApiSlovenia 2015 Fair in Celje, Slovenia, from 21 to 22 March 2015. After this date, the photographs will be exhibited at the Slovenian Beekeeping Center in Brdo pri Lukovici, Slovenia, from 25 March 2015 to the end of February 2016.
Every photograph must include an ID number, title, subject category name, and the year in which it was taken. The photographs submitted for Bee House / Bee Yard subject category must include information on the owner of the bee house / bee yard.
Data storage devices (CDs, USB flash drives) should be sent by registered mail to the following address: Čebelarska zveza Slovenije, Brdo pri Lukovici 8, 1225 Lukovica, Slovenia, with a post scriptum “Photography Competition”. All data storage devices received will remain the property of the SBA.
Photographs may also be e-mailed to the address: firstname.lastname@example.org. All photographs submitted must include information on the author (first and last name, address, telephone number, e-mail address).
By participating in this competition, the author transfers the right to ownership of photographs to the organizer. Thus, the organizer may store the original photographs submitted in a photography archive and may reproduce and publish them by crediting the author.
Participation in this competition implies full acceptance of these rules.
