BIOLMIEL, the international competition for the best organic honeys, is back, this time at its seventh edition.
BIOLMIEL initiative is promoted by CIBi – Italian Consortium for Organic (Bari, Italy) in cooperation with CRA-Api – Honey Bee and Silkworm Unit (Bologna, Italy), with the support of Apulia Region – Area of Rural Development Policies, and of the Italian producers association BIOLITALIA.
BIOLMIEL stems from BIOL Prize, the international prize for organic extra-virgin olive oil, and its aim is to promote the culture of high quality organic honey, together with an increased awareness on topics related to organic and natural agriculture and beekeeping.
Every year up to 200 different honey samples gather for this event, coming mainly from Italy but also from Slovenia, Croatia, Germany, Greece, Spain, Turkey, and from many other countries outside of Europe.
This year program will include two days of testing and evaluation by an international jury, an international conference, a local beekeeping products fairs, and one day of visits to local beekeepers. The international jury sessions, under the supervision of Dr. Gian Luigi Maracazzan of CRA-Api, will be held in Bari on the 5th and 6th of December 2013, while the international conference will be held on the 7th in Taranto.
In order to enter the competition, honey samples are analyzed for HMF and humidity content; samples that will be considered eligible and meeting the high quality standards of the international jury will receive BIOLMIEL Silver or Gold Medal certificates, while all the others will receive a participation attestation. The deadline to receive the samples is 25th of November 2013.
